Rojo Meyer

Rojo, aka Steve Meyer has been involved in some sort of musical adventure since he was born, singing in choir, learning musical instruments and having a mom that encouraged musical creativity. When Rojo began college at UCSD, he became interested in the UCSD ballroom dance team, which involved travelling and competitions in Ballroom, Latin Dances and Swing. Rojo also gravitated toward West-Coast Swing, a style that really helped him put moves together that “hit those hits…” to the breaks in the music. When Rojo discovered Salsa dancing, he knew immediately he belonged there. What Rojo loves most about Salsa music is it’s richness in rhythmic diversity and the quality to make you want to move along with it and hit those hits. Rojo danced with several dance companies, competed and performed on the World’s biggest stages, and also got the opportunity to perform with the great Tito Puente himself. He taught Salsa group classes, teams and private lessons for over 10 years where his favorite teaching activity was “Drills, drills and more drills” to train footwork and techniques via repetition along to some of his favorite salsa tunes. Rojo hopes to bring the same passion for the music, footwork and drills to The Salsa Beat community.
